Holy Spirit Baptism part 2

The Receiving of Power

What is the sign of being filled with the Spirit

Luke 1:67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,

Luke 1:41-42 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.

Acts 2:11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

Acts 4:8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

Acts 19:6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

1. prophesying,
2. spake out with a loud voice “prophesied”
3. receive power
4. be witnesses
5. tongues
6. magnify God
7. speak wonderful works of God
8. said unto them
9. spake the word of God with boldness

Being filled with the Spirit, one magnifies God, speak of his wonderful works.

Being filled with the Spirit gives one power, boldness to speck the word, to be a witnesses for Jesus.

We read in 1 Cor 14:2,3 that when one speaketh in tongues he speaketh to God and when one prophesy he speaketh unto men.

1 Cor 14:2,3

For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

What is Tongues?

The word tongues is simply a word that means a foreign language

Holman Bible Dictionary

TONGUES, GIFT OF - Spiritual gift involving ability to speak in foreign language(s) not previously studied.

(Gen 10:5 KJV) By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

(Gen 10:5 NLT) Their descendants became the seafaring peoples in various lands, each tribe with its own language.

(Deu 28:49 KJV} The LORD shall bring a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand;

(1 Cor 14:2 KJV) For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

(1 Cor 14:4 KJV) He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

(Jude 1:20 KJV) But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

(1 Cor 14:14 KJV) For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth. but my understanding is unfruitful.

(1 Cor 14:15 KJV) What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

Speaking in an unknown tongue is

a) Speaketh unto God
b) Edifieth himself
c) Prayer
d) Sing

The Holy Spirit, gives one the ability to speck in a foreign language, with out learning it, the Spirit gives the utterance, this is referred to as the infilling or baptism in the Spirit.

When one specks in tongues he is specking to God and edifieth himself, builds himself up.

Edifieth means to build one-self up.

Speaking with tongues is a supernatural way to magnify God.

Praying and speaking with tongues is one way that we can be built up spiritually.

When one specks in tongues it is his spirit

Paul Said in: 1 Cor 14:18 “. . . I thank my God; I speak with tongues more than ye all:

The 120 in the upper room, on the day of pentecost spoke in tongues, and in 1 Cor 12 tongues are listed as one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. In Mark 16:17 Jesus said that those which believe in him, signs would follow them one sign is “ they shall speak with new tongues;”

Note: signs follow, the believer is not seeking after signs, but they follow the believer.

John the Baptists said “he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost,”

So what is this that Paul was thankful for?

Paul was thankful that he spoke in tongue, because he was one that needed building up. If you look at the trouble he went threw in his missionary journeys, you know he needed to be ably to build himself up.
Paul went on to say Yet in the church.

1 Cor 14:19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.

So even though he spoke in tongues more than them all, in the church, it would not be of any benefit to the other believer.

1 Cor 14:6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?

We need to edify the church

1 Cor 14:12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.

1 Cor 14:28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

What is it then?

1 Cor 14:15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also

1 Cor 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

Speaking in tongues is mainly to assist you in you personal worship of the Father and in prayer.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

(Eph 5:18-21) And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; {19} Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; {20} Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; {21} Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

a. What is God’s commandment concerning the Holy Spirit?

b. List results

singing, Giving thanks, Submitting, and the fear of God

Go in Power

Jesus Said: Mat 28:18 - 20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Taching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

To receive the Holy Spirit Baptism

A) You need to be born-again

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

If you are born-again the Holy Spirit lives in you.

1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

B) You need to desire

1 Cor 12:31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: . . .

C) You need to ask

Luke 11:11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

D) You need to have Faith “believe”

Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

In the Old Testament the Spirit empowered only certain people the leaders and prophets, to do his serves. In the New Testament he empowers all believers. We need to be aware of the Spirit within and follow His leading.

The Holy Spirit in the Old Testament

Moses and the Seventy Elders

( Num_11:25-29 KJV) And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.
(26) But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.
(27) And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.
(28) And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.
(29) And
Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD'S people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!

Holman Bible Dictionary

"During the period of the Judges, the Spirit of the Lord came to individuals and empowered them to accomplish specific tasks (Jdg_3:10; Jdg_6:34; Jdg_11:29; Jdg_13:25; Jdg_14:6; Jdg_14:19)."

Othniel

Jdg_3:9 And when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.

Jdg_3:10 And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the LORD delivered Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushanrishathaim.

Gideon

Jephthah

Jdg_11:28 Howbeit the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not unto the words of Jephthah which he sent him.

Jdg_11:29 Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon.

Samson

Jdg_13:24 And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him.

Jdg_13:25 And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.

Jdg_14:5 Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnath, and came to the vineyards of Timnath: and, behold, a young lion roared against him.

Jdg_14:6 And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.

Jdg_14:19 And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which expounded the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father's house.

Holman Bible Dictionary

"When Samuel, the last of the judges, anointed Saul, Israel ’s first king, he told Saul that the Spirit of the Lord would come upon him. The result was that Saul prophesied and was changed into a different person ( 1Sa_10:6 )."

Saul

1 Sa_10:5 After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy:

1Sa_10:6 And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

1Sa_10:7 And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.

Later, Samuel anointed David, to be king and the Spirit departed from Saul.

David

1Sa_16:13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

1Sa_16:14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

1Sa_16:15 And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.

2Sa_23:1 Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,

2Sa_23:2 The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

Elijah said unto Elisha

( 2Ki_2:9 KJV) And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.

Twice the miracles!
Elisha has 14 recorded miracles to 7 for Elijah.

The Holy Spirit in the New Testament

Elisabeth

( Luk_1:38-43 KJV) And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
(39) And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda;
(40) And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.
(41) And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
(42) And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
(43) And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

Here we see Elisabeth filled with the Holy Ghost and prophesied.

You may have noticed a little terminology different from the Old to New Testament.

( Num_11:25 KJV) And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.

Old Testament = was upon
New Testament = was filled

1 Pet 1:11, 12 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

We can see that it is the same thing, just a different terminology or way of saying it. The Spirit empowering some one to do something.

Zacharias

( Luk_1:67 KJV) And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,

John the Baptist

( Luk_1:13-17 KJV) But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
(14) And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
(15) For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.
(16) And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
(17) And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

Caiaphas the High Priest

( Joh_11:49-51 KJV) And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,
(50) Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
(51) And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;

John Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible

"Joh_11:51 And this spake he not of himself,.... Not of his own devising and dictating, but by the Spirit of God; as a wicked man sometimes may, and as Balaam did; the Spirit of God dictated the words unto him, and put them into his mouth; nor did he use them in the sense, in which the Holy Ghost designed them: "

Jesus had an unlimited supply of the Spirit

Isaiah spoke of the coming of Jesus, The one on whom the Spirit of the Lord would rest.

(Isa 11:1-2 KJV) And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

(Luke 4:17 - 19 KJV) And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Jesus did not do any preaching or any mighty work, until He was Anointed (filed with the Spirit or Spirit upon Him)

(John 3:34 KJV) For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him .

measure = by impl. a limited portion

(Psa 45:6-7 KJV) Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre. Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

(Col 1:18 -19 KJV) And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost

Luk_3:2, 3 Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.  And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;

Luk_3:21-23 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,  And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.  And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

Luk_4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

Why was Jesus Anointed with the Spirit?

Luk_4:14 - 19  And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.  And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.  And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.  And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me
A) preach the gospel to the poor
B) heal the brokenhearted
C) preach deliverance to the captives
D) recovering of sight to the blind
E) set at liberty them that are bruised

Jesus needed the Holy Spirit to Preach, to Heal, to deliver people, to open eyes, to set people Free.

For we know in part

(1 Cor 13:9-10 KJV) For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

(1 Cor 13:12 KJV) For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Baptized with the Holy Ghost

(Acts 1:4 – 8 KJV) And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

(Mark 16:14 -19 KJV) Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

(Acts 2:4 KJV) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

(Acts 4:31 KJV) And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

(Joel 2:28-29 KJV) And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

Holman Bible Dictionary

BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Ever since the days of Joel, God’s people have looked for the pouring out of God’s Spirit (Joel 2:28-32). The Book of Acts shows the fulfillment of this. Being baptized in the Holy Spirit means being immersed (baptized) in the presence and being of God. One baptized with the Holy Spirit is also empowered to do works of ministry. The ministry for which empowerment comes included witnessing and working miracles. As part of the empowerment for ministry, believers are given the necessary spiritual gifts and knowledge and guidance.

Philip the evangelist led a great revival

Philip, one of the seven deacons (Acts 6:1-7)

(Acts 8:5 - 11 KJV) Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. And there was great joy in that city. But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.

They believed Philip preaching

(Acts 8:12 -13 KJV)   But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.  Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.

Moody Handbook of Theology

New Testament baptism had its origin in the command of Christ to make disciples and baptize them. In the origination of this ordinance there is a particular order established; the first act was to make disciples, then those disciples were to be baptized. This is the pattern that is carried out in the book of Acts. Only those who heard the gospel, understood and responded to it through faith and repentance, could be baptized. The result was that the people received the Word, then were baptized (Acts 2:41). Those who responded to Philip’s message first believed, then were baptized (Acts 8:12),

Hard Sayings of the Bible

As we would expect, the new believers were “baptized, both men and women” (Acts 8:12). But none of these believers received the Holy Spirit until Peter and John arrived and placed their hands on them.

But the Samaritans’ baptism did not grant them the Spirit

(Acts 8:14-17 KJV) Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

(Eph 1:12 -14 KJV) That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

We need to see that conversion and baptism in the Holy Spirit are not only separate experiences; they are given for separate and distinct purposes. Conversion is that experience of a non-Christian becoming a Christian "born again", while the baptism in the Holy Spirit is the experience for a Christian to equip him for serves. It is a spiritual experience, designed to liberate your spirit in worship and to move you into a new dimension with the Father.

The new birth is for sinners to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior. But the experience of the infilling of the Holy Spirit is for believers.

There are many who are born again, but because of lack of knowledge or unbelief, they have not entered into the benefit of being filled with the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 14:39 says; "Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues."  We are told to forbid not speaking in tongues. We need to seek the best gifts, what is the best gift? It is the gift that is needed at the moment. God may need you to speak to some one an encouraging word, of comfort, of exhortation, or the Lord may want you to pray in the spirit, interceded for some one. Remember God wants unity in the body he wants, us to build each other up. We where created to give God glory, he may want you to sing in the spirit, to worship him. You need to desire for God to move throw you. Be filled with the Spirit, and walk in the Spirit. Grow in Gods grace, his divine influence upon your hearts.

1 Cor 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

To receive the Holy Spirit Baptism, we must be:

A) Born Again

B) Have Faith to receive

C) Ask Jesus to baptize you in the Spirit

D) Receive the infilling

E) Release your prayer language

Jesus said that the Holy Spirit was available for His followers. All they need to do is ask the Father.

Pray something like this:

Heavenly Father, on the authority of your promise, I now ask for, and by faith receive, the gift of the Holy Spirit, in the name of Jesus.

F) Act on your faith

(Luke 11:9 - 13 KJV) And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

(Mat 21:22 KJV)  And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

(John 14:16-17 KJV)  And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Do not be concerned about what to say, as the language is spoken supernaturally and does not come through the mind or intellect, but through your spirit quickened by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a gentleman and will not force you. We read in "1 Cor 14:32  And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets." The Holy Spirit will give you the utterance but you do the speaking, So one way to act on your faith is to worship and praise the Lord from your heart giving takes and adoration to the Lord and as you are praising the Lord the Holy Spirit will give you the utterance.

Speaking in tongues is a continual experience for the rest of one's life to assist you in worship of the Father and in prayer. It is a flowing stream that should never dry up; if the Flowing stream has dried up on you it is most likely that you are walking in known sin. Repent, and forsake the sin or sins and the stream will be free to flow and it will enrich you're life.

1 Corinthians 12:31 Desire earnestly the best gift
