The Book of Revelation Introduction

The Book of Revelation is an exiting Book

In this study guide we will look at the timing of events, the time line of the book of Revelation.

Let's get a quick understanding of some events for we are told in 1 Th 5:1-5

"But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness."

We are the children of light and should know these things, and the day of the Lord should not overtake us as a thief.

7 Years

In Daniel 9:27 "And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: "7 years" and in the midst of the week "7 years" he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. "

We see that there are 7 years yet to take place, being cut into two halves of 3½ years. The Hebrew word week is the word, "shabuwa" meaning "sevened, i.e. a week (spec. of years)"

Abomination of desolation

The abomination of desolation is the event that separates the 7 year period. Jesus said in Mat 24:15,16 "When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: "

So when you see the abomination, that those in Judaea are to flee into the mountains.

Tribulation

In Mat 24:21, "For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be."

Jesus said that after the Abomination, there shall be great tribulation.

In Dan 12:1 "And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time..."

So we see the time of trouble here also, and in Dan 12:6,7, "And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders? And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished."

So we see that the tribulation will be for 3½ years. The Hebrew word time is the word, "mow'ed" meaning "a festival; conventionally a year"

a time, times, and an half
Time = 1 year
Times = 2 years
An half = 1/2 year Totaling 3½ years

Rapture

In 1 Cor 15:51,52, "Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed."

We see that the dead shall be raised at the last trump, and in 1 Th 4:16, "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:"

We see the trump and voice of the archangel, when the dead in Christ rise.

Wrath

In 1 Th 5:9, "For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,"

We see that God has not appointed us to wrath and in Isa 26:19-21, "Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead. Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast. For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain."

We see the dead raised, and then entering into their chambers, until the anger, or "wrath" of God be passed.

Seven Seals
Seven Trumpets
Seven Vials

So we will see how these events will fit into the time line of the 7 years. If they go before, during, or after the 7 years. We will see how the Lord will fulfill the last three Feasts of the Lord, on their day, the way he fulfilled the first four Feasts on their day and hour.
