New Covenant

(Jer 31:31 KJV) Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

God said he would make a new covenant; this covenant is not going to be like the one of old. That is the Ten Commandments written in stone, but the commandments of God will be written in our heart. We read in Hebrews chapter eight of Jesus being the fulfillment of the new covenant.

(Heb 8:1-13 KJV) Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law: Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount. But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

I will make a new Covenant:

I will put my laws into their mind

          Write them in their hearts

I will be to them a God

They shall be to me a people

They shall not teach every man his neighbor

I will be merciful to their unrighteousness

Sins and iniquities remember no more

(Jer 31:31-34 KJV) Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Jesus is the fulfillment of the new Covenant; he made it possible for the re-creating of the human heart. Our spirits are made new when we believe on Jesus, being born of water and spirit, being born again. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God sin entered the human race, the image of God in which man was created was lost. Man became spiritual dead, separated from God, the loss of spirit to Spirit fellowship with God.

(Joh 3:5-7 KJV) Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

Jesus explains that two things are necessary

          To be born of water

To be born of the Spirit

Be born of water here, sesames to be signifying "baptism"

Baptism was practiced for Gentiles that became proselyte to Judaism.

John the Baptist baptized repented sinners for cleansing.

Water is a symbol of cleansing, Jesus said "ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you" the word of God is referred to as water.

(Eph 5:26 KJV) That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

(Tit 3:5 KJV) Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

(Rom 1:16 KJV) For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

The Teacher’s Commentary

For instance, Jeremiah promised a time when “I will make a New Covenant with the house of Israel.” This new way of relating to God is specifically said to be unlike the older, Mosaic way. Under the New Covenant, God promised, “I will put My law in their minds and write it on their hearts” (Jer. 31:31, 33). When the new heart is created, new life comes; and one who is “born again” comes to know God in a totally different, deeply personal, family relationship. (See also Ezek. 11:19; 18:31; 36:26).

(Eze 36:24-27 KJV) For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

(Eze 11:19-21 KJV) And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh: That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God. But as for them whose heart walketh after the heart of their detestable things and their abominations, I will recompense their way upon their own heads, saith the Lord GOD.

Who is given a new heat?

Who has the word written on their hears?

(Rom 2:14-15 KJV) For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

God is bringing his people from among the heathen, both Jews and Gentiles, all who will believe in Jesus. Those that believe God writes his law on their hearts, so they can keep his ordinance. When the Gentile believers who are not under the law that is the out word law, list of does and do knots. We are to walk in the Spirit, follow the Holy Spirits guidance on our hearts. As we do this we are doers of the law and justified.

Rom 2:6-13 KJV

(6) Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

(7) To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

(8) But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

(9) Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

(10) But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

(11) For there is no respect of persons with God.

(12) For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

(13) (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

I will make a new Covenant:

I will put my laws into their mind

          Write them in their hearts

I will be to them a God

They shall be to me a people

They shall not teach every man his neighbor

I will be merciful to their unrighteousness

Sins and iniquities remember no more

I will be to them a God

They shall be to me a people

(Joh 1:12 KJV) But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

(2Co 6:17, 18 KJV) Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

They shall not teach every man his neighbor

(1Co 2:11-13 KJV)   For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.    Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

(1 John 2:27 KJV) But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

I will be merciful to their unrighteousness

Sins and iniquities remember no more

(1Jn 1:6-9 KJV) If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

(1 John 2:1, 2 KJV) My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

I will put my law in their inward parts,

and write it in their hearts
