To Him that overcometh



God has promised special blessings to those that overcome. In this study we will look at what we are to overcome and what rewards we receive or not receive.



(1 John 5:4 - 5 KJV) For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

Rev 2:7


will I give to eat of the tree of life

shall not be hurt of the second death.

will I give to eat of the hidden manna,

him will I give power over the nations:

the same shall be clothed in white raiment;

and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life,

God's Word teaches that one must overcome in order to get to heaven 

 

(Rom 12:21 KJV) Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. 

 

 

 Who are we to overcome? The world that is under Satan's power. 

 

 How are we to overcome? By belief in the Lord Jesus Christ, The Holy Spirit dwelling within us and the Word of God abiding in us. 

 

(2 Pet 2:19 - 21 KJV) While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

 

 (Jud 1:5-7 KJV)  I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.
And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

 

(Jude 1:24 KJV) Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

 

(Mat 10:22 KJV) And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

 

(Mat 24:13 KJV) But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

 

(Rom 6:22 - 23 KJV) But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

 

(Heb 3:14 KJV) For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;

 

(1 Pet 4:18 KJV) And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

 

  (Rom 8:1 KJV) There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

 

 (Rom 8:13 KJV) For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

 

(Rom 11:21 - 24 KJV) For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graft them in again. For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?

 

(Rom 13:4 KJV) For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

(1 Cor 5:11 KJV) But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

 

(1 Cor 6:9 – 11 KJV) Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 

 



We need not to be deceived and think that there is not a sin or sins that can separate us from God. We have been warned by God that once we are saved that we need to be careful, take heed, and examine ourselves, guard our salves that we do not fall back into unbelief and sin. If you go back into unbelief, willful sin, and refuse to do the word of God, His will, you will perish in your sin, unless you repent.

   

(Gal 2:17 - 18KJV) But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid. For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.

 

(Gal 5:18 KJV) But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

 

(Gal 5:25 KJV) If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

 

(Col 1:21 – 23 KJV) And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

 

(1 Th 3:8 KJV) For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.

(Heb 10:26 KJV) For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

 

(Heb 10:38 KJV) Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

 

(Heb 12:7 - 8 KJV) If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

(2 Pet 3:17 KJV) Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

 

(2 Tim 4:3 KJV) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

 

(2 Tim 4:4 KJV) And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

 



  (Ezek 18:21 – 32 KJV)

( 32 ) But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. ( 22 ) All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live. ( 23 ) Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live? ( 24 ) But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die. ( 25 ) Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal? ( 26 ) When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. ( 27 ) Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. ( 28 ) Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die. ( 29 ) Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal? ( 30 ) Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. ( 31 ) Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? ( 32 ) For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.

 
 

 


God gives us a warning that a person can turn from righteousness to iniquity, the same way the wicked can turn to righteousness. God said are ways are not equal if we clam that "once saved, always saved" and do not acknowledge that a person can indeed turn from and forsake the Lord and perish.  

 

(Ezek 33:17 - 20 KJV) Yet the children of thy people say, The way of the Lord is not equal: but as for them, their way is not equal. (18) When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die thereby. (19) But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby. (20) Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. O ye house of Israel, I will judge you every one after his ways.

 Be not deceived 

(Deu 11:16 KJV) Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;

 

 (Luke 21:8 KJV) And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.

 

 (1 Cor 6:9 - 10 KJV) Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

 

 (1 Cor 15:33 - 34 KJV) Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame. 

 

(Gal 6:7 - 8 KJV) Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting

 



God and His Word will not be mocked. God will not put up with some of His own falling into some of these sins and then thinking that He will turn a blind eye to their sins. They are condoning their sinful activities thinking that the Blood of Jesus will keep them covered till the day they die.

 

 
(Mat 7:13 – 14 KJV) Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. 

 

1 Jn. 2:3-5  And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

 



You may say you have to do nothing, the Bible says that if you don't keep the commandments, you are a liar.  You must be an over comer. Jesus made promises to those that overcome. Those that overcome will eat of the tree of life, will be clothed in white raiment, will have power over the nations, and will sit with Jesus in his throne. Jesus said the way to destruction is broad and many go there in. Be not deceived, for you will know them by their fruits. So be an over comer and keep on the narrow way that leadeth unto life.

Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
