What is the job of the Holy Spirit for
today? In this study we will look at the works of the
Holy Ghost in the world today.
The Holy Spirit Come
(John 16:7) Nevertheless I tell you the truth;
It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go
not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if
I depart, I will send him unto you.
A) What is the Spirit
of God doing today? reprove
the world
(John 16:8 KJV) And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: {9} Of sin, because they believe not on me; {10} Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; {11} Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
(John 16:12) I have yet many things to say unto
you, but ye cannot bear them now.
B)
What is he doing for believers?
guide you
into all truth and he will show you things to
come.
(John 16:13) Howbeit when he, the Spirit of
truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for
he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall
hear, that shall he speak: and
he will show you things to come.
C) Who or what does he emphasize?
Glorify me “Jesus”
(John 16:14-15) He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you. {15} All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you.
Works
plural
Fruit singular
(Gal 5:19-5 KJV) Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, {20} Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, {21} Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. {22} But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, {23} Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. {24} And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. {25} If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Compare with (John 15:5 KJV) I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
The victorious
Christian life How does the Holy Spirit help you
live in victory?
(Rom 8:1 KJV) There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. {2} For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. {3} For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: {4} That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. {5} For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. {6} For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. {7} Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. {8} So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. {9} But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. {10} And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. {11} But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. {12} Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. {13} For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. {14} For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. {15} For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. {16} The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: {17} And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. {18} For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. {19} For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. {20} For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, {21} Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. {22} For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. {23} And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. {24} For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? {25} But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. {26} Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. {27} And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
We see in
verse {13}
... but if
ye through the Spirit do mortify the
deeds of the body, ye shall live.
Mortify = G2289
than-at-o'-o to kill (literally or
figuratively): - become dead, (cause to be) put to
death, kill, mortify.
The Holy
Spirit on the inside of you helps you to put to death
the deeds of the body. The Holy Spirit does not do it
for you, you have to obey Him, follow His leading. And
in {26} "Likewise the Spirit also
helpeth our infirmities:" The Holy Spirit helps
you in the areas you are weak. He teaches you to abide
in Jesus. He teaches you to comparing the word with the
word. The Holy Spirit works with the word of God. You
need to give him something to work with.
1Jn 2:27 But the anointing which ye
have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not
that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things,
and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught
you, ye shall abide in him.
1Co 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in
the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual
things with spiritual.
What role did the
Holy Spirit play in Paul’s missionary work?
(Acts 13:2 KJV) As they
ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost
said, Separate me Barnabas and
Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. {3} And when they had fasted
and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them
away. {4} So they, being
sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed

(Acts 16:6 KJV) Now

.
(1 Cor 2:4 KJV) And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
The Holy Spirit called Paul and Barnabas to be missionaries. On their missionary journeys He guided them where not to go. The Holy Spirit also in powered them for the work He had for them.
THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Spiritual
gifts 1 Cor 12-14
A. Who
are the gifts of the Holy Spirit for?
(1 Cor 12:7 KJV) But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
(1 Cor 12:11 KJV) But
all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing
to every man severally as he will.
.
B. Who
decides which gifts are given to a believer?
(1 Cor 12:18 KJV) But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
.
C. For
what purpose are these gifts given?
(1 Cor 12:7 KJV) But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
(1 Pet 4:10 KJV) As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
.
D. Why is
there a variety of gifts in the body?
(1 Cor 12:14 KJV) For the body is not one member, but many. {15} If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? {16} And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? {17} If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? {18} But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. {19} And if they were all one member, where were the body?
.
E. Does
God want everyone to have the same gift?
(1 Cor 12:28 KJV) And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. {29} Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? {30} Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
(1 Cor 12:31) But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet show I unto you a more excellent way.
(1 Cor 14:1) Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.
.
F. What
are the gifts mentioned in 1 Cor 12?
(1 Cor 12:8 KJV) For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; {9} To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; {10} To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
(1
Cor 12:11)
But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit,
dividing to
every man
severally as he will.

are mentioned?
(Rom 12:6 KJV) Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; {7} Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; {8} Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that showeth mercy, with cheerfulness.

wherein is excess; but be filled
with the Spirit; {19} Speaking to yourselves in psalms
and hymns and spiritual
songs, singing
and making melody in your heart to the Lord; {20} Giving thanks
always for all things unto God and the Father in the
name of our Lord Jesus Christ; {21}
Submitting
yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

What is being filled with the Holy
Spirit compared to in Ephesians 5:18?
Drunk with wine
THE DAY OF
PENTECOST WAS FULLY COME, in Acts 2
(Acts 2:4) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
(Acts 2:5) And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
(Acts 2:12) And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?
(Acts 2:13) Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
How are they similar and how are
they different?
What are some
other results of being filled with the Spirit?
(Acts 4:31) And when
they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were
assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the
word of God with boldness.
(Acts 11:22) Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.
.
(Acts 11:24) For he was
a good man, and full of the
Holy Ghost and of faith:
and much people
was added unto the Lord.
(Rom 5:5) And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
FILLED WITH THE
HOLY GHOST Occurs 8 times
John the
Baptists (Luke
1:15) For he shall be great in the
sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor
strong drink; and he shall be filled with
the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's
womb.
(Luke 1:41-42) And
it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of
Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled
with the Holy Ghost:
{42} And she spake out with a loud voice,
and said, Blessed art thou among
women, and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb.
(Luke 1:67) And
his father Zacharias
was filled
with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied,
saying,
120 in the upper room (Acts 2:4) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
(Acts 4:8) Then
Peter, filled with
the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of
the people, and elders of
(Acts 4:31) And
when they had prayed,
the place was shaken where they were assembled together;
and they were all filled
with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with
boldness.
(Acts 9:17) And
Ananias went
his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on
him said, Brother Saul,
the Lord, even Jesus, that
appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent
me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled
with the Holy Ghost.
(Acts 13:9-10) Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, (Elymas the sorcerer) {10} And said, O full of all subtlety and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?
(Acts 1:8) But ye shall receive power,
after that
the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and
ye shall be
witnesses unto me both in
(Num 11:25) And
the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and
took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the
seventy elders:
and it came to pass, that, when
the spirit
rested upon them, they prophesied, and
did not cease.
(Num 11:29) And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD'S people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!
(Joel 2:28-29) And
it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour
out my spirit upon all flesh; and your
sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men
shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: {29} And also upon the servants and
upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my
spirit.
What are you warned against
in your relationship to the Holy Spirit?
(1 Th 5:19) Quench not the Spirit.
(Eph 4:30) And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
To quench
him is not to do what he wants us to do
To grieve
him is to do what he does not want us to do
(Exo 23:20-22) Behold,
I send an
Angel before thee, to keep thee in the
way, and to bring thee into the place which I have
prepared. {21} Beware of him, and
obey his voice, provoke him
not; for he will not pardon your
transgressions: for my name is in
him. {22} But if thou shalt
indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I
will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary
unto thine adversaries.
(Isa
63:9-10) In all their affliction he
was afflicted, and the angel of
his presence saved them: in his love
and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and
carried them all the days of old. {10} But they
rebelled, and vexed his
holy Spirit: therefore
he was turned to be their enemy, and he
fought against them.
Blaspheming of the
Holy Spirit
(Mat 12:31-32) Wherefore I say unto you, All
manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto
men: but the blasphemy against the
Holy Ghost shall not be
forgiven unto men. {32} And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of
man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh
against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him,
neither in this world, neither in the world
to come.
Blasphemy against the Spirit is
not cussing; it has to do with mocking the works of the
Holy Spirit. That is ascribing to Satan the work of the
Holy Spirit. The unforgivable sin is attributing the
supernatural power, the manifestation of the Holy Spirit
to Satan.
Let’s look at the verses
surrounding Ephesians 4:30
(Eph 4:20) But ye have not so learned Christ;
(Eph 4:21) If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
(Eph 4:22) That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
(Eph 4:23) And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
(Eph 4:24) And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
(Eph 4:25) Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
(Eph 4:26) Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
(Eph 4:27) Neither give place to the devil.
(Eph 4:28) Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
(Eph 4:29) Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
(Eph 4:30) And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
(Eph 4:31) Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
(Eph 4:32) And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
(Gal 5:16) This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
(Gal 5:18) But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
(Gal 5:25) If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
(John 15:2) Every branch in
me that beareth not fruit
he taketh away:
and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth
it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
(John 15:4) Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me
(John 15:5) I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
(John 15:7) If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
(John 15:8) Herein is my Father glorified,
that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye
be my disciples.
(Rom 11:22) Behold therefore
the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell,
severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness:
otherwise
thou
also shalt be cut off.
