Paul identified
himself
as a “servant” of Jesus Christ. The Greek word is doulos, and means a bondslave.
Rom 1:1 NNAS Paul, a
bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an
apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,
A Bondslave is a
slave that volunteers to be permanent Slave to his
Master.
Deu 15:12 - 18 KJV
And if thy brother, an
Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and
serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou
shalt let him go free from thee. And when thou sendest him out free from
thee, thou shalt not let him go away empty: Thou
shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out
of thy floor, and out of thy winepress: of that
wherewith the LORD thy God hath blessed thee thou
shalt give unto him. And thou shalt remember
that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the
LORD thy God redeemed thee: therefore I command thee
this thing to day. And it shall be, if he say
unto thee, I will not go away from thee; because he
loveth thee and thine house, because he is well with
thee; Then thou shalt take an
awl, and thrust it through his ear unto the door, and
he shall be thy servant
for ever. And
also unto thy maidservant thou shalt do likewise.
It shall not seem hard
unto thee, when thou sendest him away free from thee;
for he hath been worth a double hired servant to thee,
in serving thee six years: and the LORD thy God shall
bless thee in all that thou doest.
If a Person has
come a temporary slave, for whatever reason after his
time of serves has run out he could voluntarily become
a permanent slave (bondslave).
The greatest honor you or I can have is to be a
bondslave of Jesus Christ, and to serve Him with all
our hearts.
Some
bond slave of God and Jesus listed in the New
Testament in the New American Standard Bible.
Titus
1:1 Paul, a bond-servant of God and an apostle of Jesus
Christ,
James 1:1 James, a bond-servant of God and of the Lord Jesus
Christ,
2 Pet 1:1 Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus
Christ,
Jude 1:1 Jude, a bond-servant of Jesus Christ,
So here we see
that Paul, James, Simon Peter and Jude refereed to
them salves as bond-servant. In the KJV it says
servant, instead of bond-servant, the Greek
meaning of servant is bond-servant. Different slaves had different
statuses, a slaves statuses was determined by whose
slave he was and by what position in a household he
held.
*
Compare this with some of the masters we decided to choose to serve.
*
We are slave to whatever we choose to serve in this life.

Rom
6:6 NLT Our old sinful selves
were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose
its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.
Rom 6:12, 13b, 14 NLT and
Rom 8:15 NNAS
v.13b Instead, give yourselves
completely to God since you have been given new life. And use your whole
body as a tool to do what is right for the glory of
God.
v.14 Sin is no longer your master, for you are no longer
subject to the law, which enslaves you to sin. Instead, you are free by
God's grace.
8:15 For you have not
received a spirit
of slavery
leading to fear again, but you have received a
spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out,
"Abba! Father!"
Phil 2:5, 6, 8 NLT
v.7 NNAS Your attitude should be
the same that Christ Jesus had. Though
he
was God, he did not demand and cling to his rights as
God. but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the
likeness of men. And in human form he
obediently humbled himself even further by dying a
criminal's death on a cross.
