Refuge Psa 46

God is a safe refuge for all who will turn to Him. No source of security is as sure as our good Lord.

Psa 46
  God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Selah There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah Come and see the works of the LORD, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear, he burns the shields with fire. "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

Refuge = a shelter

Strength in various applications (force, security, majesty, praise)

God has power and authority to help us out of any trouble anytime, anywhere.

Psa 37:40 And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.

God is a safe refuge for all who will turn to Him. No source of security is as sure as our good Lord.

Psa 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. Those who fear God lack nothing good that they need.

Psa 125:1,2 They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever. As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.

In silent meditation we can experience God's presence and gain faith in His protecting power. Reviewing what God has done gives us confidence in what He will do. God surrounds those who take refuge in Him like the mountains surround Jerusalem.

Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

God works through all things to bring good to His people that are called according to His purpose; doing what God said. God is a good, righteous, faithful God who does not cause evil and suffering. But in His sovereignty He permit evil men to do them. The Bible constantly describes sinful, satanic evil in this world. This verse teaches us that when evil events do occur, God can work through those tragic circumstances to bring a blessing to His people. Those who love God can expect Him to work in all things for our good.

Jesus the Great High Priest

Mat 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Heb 9:24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

Heb 4:12 - 16 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

God has perfect knowledge of what is going on in the world, even to the point of knowing the very thoughts of our hearts. God through Christ has offered to help us in our circumstances. Our High Priest understands the human situation totally. God is exalted. When people see the Lord for who He is, He will be exalted; and they will fall at His feet, accepting His wonderful salvation.
